About The Company 


Our client is the native title service provider for the Noongar people, who are the traditional owners of the South West of Western Australia. Our client works to progress the resolution of native title claims while also advancing and strengthening culture, language, heritage, and society.

About The Opportunity

They are now looking for a Junior Lawyer to join their corporation in Cannington, WA.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide legal advice and representation to the business and their clients on Native Title and related matters which include but are not limited to; Future Act negotiations, mediations, provision of legal briefings, managing legal meetings and managing litigation.

Reporting directly to the Principal Legal Officer some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Assist the Principal Legal Officer and work in collaboration with other staff members
  • Ensure that all functions are undertaken efficiently and consistent with objectives and strategic direction
  • Provide verbal and written legal advice and opinions on Native Title and related matters
  • Subject to the oversight and consent of the PLO, prepare briefs to legal counsel and expert witnesses
  • Contribute to the preparation of Annual Reports, Strategic Plans, Operational Plans etc

About You 

The successful candidate will have:

  • A relevant legal qualification and a current practising certificate
  • A current driver’s license
 and full working rights in Australia
  • An understanding of Aboriginal cultural, social, economic and political issues 
  • An understanding of the Native Title Act, together with relevant state legislation
  • Ability to work directly with indigenous people and to communicate legal concepts clearly and effectively

Other desirable experience would include:

  • Post-admission experience within administrative, commercial, property, resources or native title law
  • Experience working in an Aboriginal-managed organisation
  • Experience dealing with the Government, developers, industry and community
